I am writing to urge you to ban the use of credit scoring to determine how much I should pay for my home insurance. My broker tells me that my rates have increased because my insurance company is using my credit score to determine my premium.

The use of credit scoring affects those who can least afford it:  retired seniors, the unemployed, newcomers to Canada, and small business owners. I think this is very unfair. I know that if I install an alarm or have few claims I can lower my rates. I don't why my rates might go up if I increase my credit line. I don't understand what my credit score has to do with my insurance rate.

Credit scoring is banned from pricing auto insurance in Ontario and the provinces of New Brunswick and Newfoundland have announced that they intend to ban the use of credit scoring from home insurance. Surely, if the Ontario government feels it is not right to use credit scoring in auto insurance, then it shouldn't be allowed to price my home insurance.

Please support ending this problem for people in Ontario by banning this unfair practice.
